Wood Preserver & Timber Treatments

Buying and applying timber treatments or wood preserver products like those we stock here is a smart move. It’s an investment in your shed, fence, garden building, or gate, and helps to ensure your timbers don't rot. Some buildings and structures come dip or pressure treated but for others applying a wood preserver is vital. Log cabins are a good example, as they are made from untreated wood and applying timber treatment or preserver is a necessity to preserve the longevity of the building.

Our shed timber treatments have added waxes for greater water protection and add a great decorative finish to your timbers. Don’t delay, free delivery is available to most UK postcodes with our range of wood treatments and preservers on orders over £100.

Why use a wood preserver?

Very much operating to the mantra of “prevention is better than cure”, wood preserver is used in protecting wood from rot, decay, and infestation. It works by penetrating the wood and creating a barrier against moisture and other elements that cause decay. It is also helpful in preventing staining and fading from the sun. Preserving wood can help to extend its life and make it last longer, as well as improve its overall appearance. It is well worth paying the price of wood preserver, as the cost of not using timber treatments will in the medium-long term be much higher.

Timber treatments - when is the best time to apply timber preservative coatings?

Generally, you should apply your timber treatment to a log cabin as soon as you can and preferably within a week of building. The timbers arrive untreated to make it easier for you to assemble. A year after the initial coating it is a good idea to reapply the wood treatment, then you need to repeat every year or two, depending on the weather and condition of the timbers. It is best to apply protective timber treatments during Spring or early Autumn, whilst the weather is dry.

Are additional protective coatings needed?

Yes. Ideally, we recommend that you apply wood treatment one year after assembling your shed and then a new protective coating repeated every year or two depending on the weather conditions. It's best to apply the coatings on a dry day in Spring or Autumn.

What about pressure treated wood?

The beauty of buying a pressure treated shed is that you do not need to apply any preservative treatment. That said the wood will still change colour over the years, to keep your shed looking fresh you may wish to apply a timber treatment every 4-5 years.
