As you take a brisk morning stroll around the block to get the day’s newspaper, a bottle of milk or a loaf of bread, you’ll probably walk past a fair few houses. All are fairly nondescript, there’s nothing special about any of the homes you see; they all look exactly the same. Their respective owners have, no doubt, spent countless hours improving their kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and lounges, keeping up with the latest styles and trends. The same effort, though, has not been given to increasing their ‘kerb appeal’. The flowerbeds are barren, the paint covering the exterior walls is flaky, and their garden boundaries are constructed of tired, old lap panels or threadbare hedges.
If homeowners spent a fraction of their time redesigning their front gardens, your morning stroll would certainly be more interesting. So, how can you give your own driveway a makeover? The first step is straightforward: decorative fencing.
1. Decorative Fencing Panels
In a world dominated by traditional lap fence panels, why not be a little different? Sure, lap panels are cheap and cheerful; they get the job done, but they’re not going to turn heads. On the other hand, decorative fence panels will excite and inspire. Choose panels which incorporate some trellis, possess an interesting structure, or feature a wavy top.
2. Painting
Perhaps you have just replaced your fence panels? Even if you’ve opted for a more traditional design, you can still create a splendid run of decorative fencing. Use paint to show a little personality, you don’t have to produce a pinterest-worthy work of art, simply painting your panels a bright or unusual colour will add a new dynamic to your driveway. On the other hand, you could go for something a bit different...
3. Vertical Gardening
If you haven’t got the space for a full vegetable plot, why not hop on the vertical gardening bandwagon. Making the best use out of available space, vertical gardening is becoming increasingly popular. Colourful planters, fruits and vegetables will certainly improve the aesthetics of any fence panel.
4. Climbing Plants
Ideally paired with trellis, climbing plants are a classy way to decorate your fence panels. Roses, jasmines, honeysuckles…the options are endless. Of course, trellis panels can be thought of as decorative in their own right, but adding climbing plants only serves to improve their appearance.
5. Something Unique
Personally speaking, creativity is not one of my strong points, I can only provide some basic ideas. But, for those of you lucky enough to have a creative streak, the possibilities for fence customisation are limitless. Have fun, experiment, and see what you can come up with.
