2014 Allotment, recipe, and blogger competition

In aid of allotment week we are running three competitions for allotment lovers, chefs and hand picked bloggers to share their love of all things allotment and have a chance of winning £100 in vouchers to use on our site. The competition will run for three weeks and is split into three sections, allotments, recipes and blogs. There will be three winners respectively and the winners will be decided by an independent voting panel. We'll also be posting our own allotment content on the blog so take a look there as well for some great tips and information around this great National holiday. Visit the three sections below to see the entries and submit your own content. Entries will be uploaded from the 4th onward but we'll still be accepting entries after that date. A winner will be announced on the 22nd so any entries submitted up to the 21st will be considered.

This is a chance for everyone to show off their allotments. If you don't have access to an allotment don't worry, you can enter your vegetable patches, herb gardens, apiaries or garden farms. If it's a plot of land and you're growing your own produce send it in and be proud of your patch.

There are no specific criteria in order to win, we will judge entries on which stands out most from the crowd, it may be the huge variety of produce, the time put into giving handy tips, or the fact that you've got the whole community involved in your patch.

Here are the steps required to enter:

  • Send us a photo of your allotment, if maintaining it is a family effort, get everyone involved and snap them too.
  • Annotate the photo letting us know what's growing.
  • Do you have any handy tips? Add them to the annotations, you are the experts so share your knowledge with the community, after all that's what this week is all about!
  • Write a short paragraph about your allotment; why did you start it? How long has it been going? Any plans for the future?
  • Be sure to enter 'Allotment Entry' in the subject field of your submission email.
  • Enter via email

Calling all culinary wizards, allotments are probably best known for putting food on our tables through the food shortages of WW1 and WW2. This competition is in honour of all the allotment meals served up through British history. So send us in your recipes and let us know how your food goes from patch to pan.

The best recipe will have to be individual, full of home grown products and of course, very tasty! We will be trying them out once we narrow them down.

Here's what you need to do to enter:

  • Send us your delicious recipes, whether it's short and sweet, healthy or hearty, we don't mind!
  • Add photos to the recipe to show us your stages to success.
  • If you want to, send us photos of your family and friends enjoying the food.
  • What's your inspiration for this meal? Is it an old family recipe or something you've adapted from another chefs recipe? Let us know.
  • Be sure to enter 'Recipe Entry' in the subject field of your submission email.
  • Enter via email

This competition is in honour of the bloggers, and a massive thanks to all the effort they put in to providing us with great gardening, allotment and cooking content all year around.

This isn't a popularity contest, so don't worry if your blog doesn't have thousands or even hundreds of followers. Blogs will be judged on the effort they have shown in providing their readers with really interesting, helpful, funny and creative content.

So thanks to all of the beautiful bloggers out there, here's how to enter:

  • If we've invited you to join then simply submit your blog as described in the message we sent you.
  • If we missed you, we're sorry! But you can still enter, just send us the URL of your blog to this email address as long as your blog is about gardening, allotments, or growing your own anything!
  • Along with that send us a paragraph describing your blog and what you've been doing to provide your readers with the content you all love.
  • Be sure to enter 'Blogger Entry' in the subject field of your submission email.
  • Enter via email
