Preparing for your New Shed

A good solid base is essential when considering the construction of your shed, without this you are likely to face many problems such as an unbalanced shed, rotting or splitting wood and poorly fitting doors and windows. We advise that you abide by the following points for laying your base:

• The ground on which the base sits must be workable - not too soft like clay or sand, but not too hard like rock.
  
• The ground must be level at all points, including the middle.
  
• The base must not be larger than the shed itself, therefore none of the base should be showing around the edge of the shed.
  
• The base must be of suitable quality to hold the weight of the shed. 
  

From experience the best types of shed base are:
 
Timber Shed Base – Timber bases are quick and easy to construct and require minimal DIY skills.  Our timber shed bases are made from pressure treated timber therefore preventing the timber from rotting, they even come with a 15 year guarantee against rot.
 
Concrete Shed Base – This base will be the most stable of the three and will last the longest.  The concrete area upon which you are laying the shed will need to be completely flat.
 
Paving Slab Shed Base – This is similar to a concrete base as it is fairly stable; however the slabs can be easily moved if the shed ever needs to be placed in a different location within the garden.
 
Plastic Shed Base - A plastic base is quick and simple to build and saves on the hassle of having to lay slabs or a concrete base.  They can be used with weed control fabric and are a perfect stable and level base for any garden shed.
