Compost is an extremely rich growing medium that is used as an additive to enhance soil nutrients levels. It also introduces beneficial microorganisms which help to aerate the soil and break down material present in the soil so that your plants can use them. This is also a great way to reduce the amount of waste you send to landfill, by recycling your food scraps, peal and garden waste.
Our composters have open bottoms so as microbes and worms from the soil can easily work their way into your heap. First lay twigs and branches at the bottom to allow drainage. Next alternately layer dry garden waste and wet kitchen waste, including used tea bags. If you can cover the mix this will retain heat and moister to speed the process. You will then need to water regular and turn weekly.
Making leaf-mould is easy and is a great material for improving soil nutrients. Simply fill one (or more) of our leaf composting sack and leave in a shady part of the garden with good drainage. All you then need to do is wait for a few months for the leaves to break down.
