Cold Frames

Our cold frames will give your vegetables and plants the vital helping hand they need at the start of the growing season. A cold frame works in much the same way as greenhouses, by trapping the warmth from sunlight to maintain the temperature of the soil and air when it gets cool outside, especially at night.

You can use our cold frames to grow from seed to full maturity and to protect your winter crops from the worst of the British weather. A cold frame is also great for keeping garden pests at bay.

What can I use a Cold Frame for?

A cold frame is primarily used to harden off plants before moving planting them out into the garden. They can also be used to increase the growing season of various vegetables by creating a warmer environment in very-early spring. This then allows you to have certain vegetables earlier than normal.

Cold Frames can be used to grow a range of vegetable, including:

  • Salad onions
  • Turnips
  • Parsnips
  • Radishes
  • Lettuce varieties
  • Spinach
